Among the townships of most renown for their carnival celebrations in the days right before Lent (month of February), Carmona, Alcalde Guadaira, Dos Hermanas, and Moron de la Frontera are especially noteworthy. Located in the frontier between the countryside and the Southern Sierra Mountain Range, Moron is a village that although rooted in rural life, lives the beat of a city that is the county seat. The Moron Carnaval is characterized by the distinct critical tone of many of its groups, who take a swing at what is going on locally with highly ironical and sarcastic songs. In the street caroling and the huge costume ball, the locals and their neighbors from surrounding areas meet up in an original and amusing environment.
