Hansel and Gretel is a classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm that follows the story of a young brother and sister who are left in the woods by their step-mother when a great famine sets over the land. Although they leave a trail of bread crumbs to follow home, the children become lost when they discover that birds have eaten the crumbs. After coming across a cottage built out of cake and gingerbread, they begin eating the roof of the house when an old woman emerges and offers them beds and food. The children comply but quickly find out she is a wicked witch who lures children to her cottage to eat them. Hansel and Gretel manage to outsmart the witch, killing her in her own oven, before finding a vase full of treasure, which they take home to their father.
