Chucho Valdés is a jazz pianist, composer and arranger from Quivicán, Cuba. Son of the renowned pianist and director of Havana's legendary Tropicana Club band Bebo Valdés, he was encouraged to play music from an early age and quickly showed an affinity for jazz composition. Since releasing his 1978 debut album, Live at Newport, Valdés has earned international acclaim and several Grammy Awards, including the award for Best Latin Jazz Album for his 2000 record Live at the Village Vanguard, as well as his 2010 album Chucho's Steps.
