Written by Igor Stavinsky in the late 1940s, The Rake's Progress is a three-part opera set in London. The opera is a morality tale based on the old adage of idle hands being the "devils' playground." Lead character Tom Rakewell succumbs to the temptations of the dubious Shadow and wind's up in a psychiatric ward by production's end. The Rake's Progress debuted in Venice in 1951 and is still performed frequently in opera halls all over the world.
