Godewind is a folk group from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany that formed in 1979. The band was founded by Larry Evers, Gerd Jörgen Ohl, Annegret Siemen and Henry Jansen. Godewind began performing in local churches around Northern Germany, turning Christmas concerts into annual traditions. Throughout the 1980s, news of the band spread into other parts of Germany and eventually to the U.S. In 1988, Godewind made their American premiere by participating in a folk festival in Missouri. As of 2011, Godewind has released over 40 albums beginning with 1979's Plattdeutsche Lieder. Even after the band's 2011 effort Sommerreise, released over 30 years after the band's debut, Godewind focuses on playing as many live shows as possible.
