The Vizcayan village of Plentzia (some 25 kilometers from Bilbao), celebrates its own San Antolín festival. During the festivities in this beautiful coastal municipality (a summer resort famous for its beach and founded between 1214 and 1234) Saint Antolín is brought down from the Andramari hermitage. There are sports competitions, open-air dancing and an agricultural contest, which all together give this village with its medieval layout of both straight and twisted streets, a wonderfully festive feel. If already in the city, do not neglect to visit the medieval Santa María Magdalena church, nor the promenade along the shore, with its estuary full of small boats.
