Most recognized as the character Silent Bob, Kevin Smith is an actor, comedian, director, screenwriter, author and radio personality from New Jersey. His first film as a director, Clerks debuted at Sundance Film Festival in 1994 and took the prize for Filmmaker's Trophy before going to Cannes International Film Festival, where it won the prize for Prix de la Juenesse. Now considered a cult classic, Clerks also introduced his character Silent Bob, who along with his partner in crime Jay, played by Jason Mewes, has appeared in several of his other films including Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Smith launched a comedy podcast called SModcast in 2007 along with Scott Mosier, and eventually turned the small production into a podcast network of the same name. In addition to his contributions to film, Smith is an avid comic book reader, collector and writer, and opened the store Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, which houses comic books and his film and comic merchandise, in his hometown of Red Bank, NJ.
