Inspired after a trip to Cambodia, brother Ethan and Zac Holtzman decided to form a Cambodian pop band fused with their previous musical style of choice, psych rock. By 2003, the brothers had found a front woman, popular Cambodian karaoke singer Chhom Nimol who had recently moved to the US, filled out the rest of the band and released its debut album. Initially, the band primarily produced covers of 1960s Cambodian hits sung in that country's native language, Khmer, but eventually Dengue Fever broadened its style to include songs sung in English and original material. Dengue Fever has since built a respectable fan base that covers a broad audience.
