Gerald Clayton is a modern jazz pianist who is known for his abilities to play in both classic and experimental styles. Born in the Netherlands and raised in California, Clayton was brought up in a musical household. His father, John Clayton, is an award-winning bass player who has arranged and performed with the likes of Quincy Jones, Whitney Houston, Count Basie and Diana Krall. This passionate love for music was passed down to Gerald, who began studying piano and jazz composition when he was seven years old. He performs both solo and with various groups and collaborative projects, including the Gerald Clayton Trio and The Clayton Brothers. His love for alternatingly adhering to jazz's preexisting guidelines and respectfully working outside of them has helped him land in the top-tier of the genre's modern performers.
