Every year, Saint Sebastian Day is celebrated on January 20th. St. Sebastian was a martyr of the early Christian movement, and was put to death when the Roman Empire was at the height of its glory. He belonged to a wealthy Roman family, and was educated in Milan. He was also an officer of the Imperial Roman army and captain of the guard, a favorite of Emperor Diocletian. During Diocletian's persecution of the Christians, Sebastian visited them in prison, bringing them food and comfort. He is the patron saint of young adults and of athletes.
