Based on Mel Brooks's classic 1974 comedy of the same name, Young Frankenstein took Broadway by storm in 2007, garnering numerous Tony and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations. A spoof of the horror film genre, the film begins with Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, who denounces his roots as a descendant of a mad scientist. Preferring to be noted for his level-headed achievements in the scientific field of brain research, he is forced to return to the estate of his grandfather in Transylvania to resolve the inherited property. Once in Transylvania, he becomes engrossed in the notes of his grandfather and decides after all to take on the grim experiments on reanimating tissue. He unwittingly reanimates an abnormal brain, and looses a monster upon the town. The chaos that ensues is enough to fill the stage with rollicking, inventive musical numbers and the delight of audiences since its debut. The show has attracted glittering performances from both stars of the stage and screen, igniting tours and sold-out shows across the country.
