Maine-born singer/songwriter Patty Griffin is an undeniable master of the songwriting craft. Griffin won the Grammy for Best Traditional Gospel Album at the 2011 Grammy Awards for her album Downtown Church. Recording since 1996, Griffin has solidified herself as one of the best songwriters of her generation and has done notable work with producers like Nile Rogers, and musicians like the Dixie Chicks, Hank Williams and Emmylou Harris. One of the more memorable moments in Griffin's songwriting history was a performance of Griffin's song "Up to the Mountain (MLK Song)" by Kelly Clarkson, alongside Jeff Beck on guitar. The rendition is Griffin's highest chart-topping song in her songwriting history.
