Andalusia celebrates February 28 as its Official Day, commemorating the decision of the Andalusian people to establish the Autonomous Region of Andalusia, bringing it to equal terms with the rest of Spain. In Seville, activities take place in the city streets and squares, especially those near the Andalusian Parliament and the city's parks. After the hoisting of the Autonomous flag, the festival begins with expositions, musical acts, and contests. During the days preceding the celebration, Sevillian schools give special attention to teaching this recent Andalusian history.
