If you're looking to get away, meander into the woods of Becket, Massachusetts. You will not want to miss the gem of the Berkshires: Jacob's Pillow Dance. Not only is "The Pillow" a special venue with a large, rugged, wooden playhouse located in a beautiful nook of Western Mass, but it actually served as a station in the Underground Railroad in the 1800s. A National Historic Landmark, it was founded as a showcase for dance in 1933 by renowned dancer Ted Shawn. The Pillow is known for exhibiting the most innovative and celebrated dance companies in the world such as Alvin Ailey and Mark Morris, and dancers such as Mikhail Baryshnikov and Margot Fonteyn. Their summer performance schedule is packed with performances on the three different stages that will keep everyone in the entire family amused. The Pillow also houses a dance school and many other educational programs. The summer festival runs June-August.
