Japan respects hard work, physical labor and production every year on Labor Thanksgiving Day. Formerly a harvest festival called Niiname-sai, it is held every year either on November 23 or 24. On this day, school children show appreciation for the labor sector by handing out handmade cards or gifts, citizens thank one another for their contribution to society, corporates review their accomplishments over the years and show gratitude to their employees for their hard work, and families get together for a meal. Numerous events are organized across the country on this occasion.
