Hailed by many as the band that rescued rock and roll from the despairs of the late 1980s, Guns N' Roses is a hard rock band from Los Angeles that took the reins from the popular glam rock bands that permeated the Southern California music scene in the mid 1980s. Starting with its 1987 debut LP Appetite for Destruction, the band spent a decade gracing the music scene with its straightforward, no-nonsense sound that is now immortalized in songs like "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child O' Mine." As Guns N' Roses carried on and cemented its place in the archives of rock history, band tensions rose and slowly every original member of the band left the group with the exception of lead singer Axl Rose. The band, known as Axl and his Hired Guns, carried on and even released its much anticipated LP Chinese Democracy in 2008. Surprising fans and critics alike, classic-era Guns N' Roses members Slash and Duff Mckagan rejoined the band in 2006, setting off an official Guns N' Roses reunion.
