Regarded as one of the Czech Republic's largest cities, Olomouc is home to the second oldest university in the country, the Palacký University. It was the center of Moravia until into the 17th century. Home to numerous large squares, some of the city's notable monuments include the Holy Trinity Column, Saint Maurice Church, Saint Wenceslas Cathedral, Olomouc Orthodox Church, and the Olomouc Castle. Olomouc is also known for its vibrant cultural scene. The city hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, including the International Organ Music Festival, the Olomouc Baroque Festival, and the Flora Olomouc Flower Exhibition. The city is also home to several museums, galleries, and theaters.
