The artist Marquard Wocher worked on the first panorama of Switzerland between 1809 and 1814. He prepared his sketches of a small town sitting atop the roofs of the Old Town of Thun. This allows the observer to catch intimate glimpses of the living rooms of the Thun citizens even today. The painted canvas strip is mounted on a rotunda. Thus the observer is completely surrounded by the picture and gets the impression that he himself is sitting on a roof and enjoying the view of the idyllic mountains.
