Thousands of colourful coats of arms adorn the walls and vaulted ceilings of the magnificent palace. They were created by the students and professors of the University of Bologna who used these rooms from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The old library with its beautiful reading room is especially worth seeing. The former anatomy room in the shape of an amphitheatre presents a most elegant appearance with its wood panelled walls, statues and candelabras.
