TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Vaison-la-Romaine as a town is known for its rich historic heritage, with Roman ruins forming major part of the attractions. Since the start of archaeological excavations in 1907, two old quarters of the Roman town, a theater, a street of shops and the peacock villa with its mosaic decorations have been discovered. The center of the former town lies under the present town and has therefore not been exposed. However, the Haute Ville on the other side of the famous Roman bridge and the castle provide insights into the Middle Ages.
