Set on Lake Vanajavesi and boasting infinite expanses of soft, rolling fields, the town of Hämeenlinna is surrounded by idyllic vistas all around. Forming the centerpiece of this vibrant lakeside town is the majestic Häme Castle, a medieval fortification made of red brickstone. Hämeenlinna is also home to the spectacular Aulanko Park, the Evo hiking area, and the National Urban Park. Aside from its striking landscapes, the town also thrives as a vital railway hub, and was the junction of the first Finnish railway line that stretched to Helsinki in 1862. It is no stranger to cultural and artistic pursuits either, and is home to the Verkatehdas Arts & Congress Centre as well as several museums.
