In operation since 1997, the Schaudepot St. Katharinental or the St. Katharinental Observatory offers visitors a glimpse into rural life. Besides learning more about everything from agriculture to viticulture, visitors also get the chance to know more about other rural professions like making and selling handicrafts. One can also learn about how people travelled from one place to another before and during early industrial times. Located by the Rhine River, and housed in an erstwhile Dominican building, the St. Katharinental Observatory also offers guided tours to visitors to allow them to learn a lot more about everyday rural life.
