A coastal town with mild temperatures, Calvi in the northern part of the island of Corsica offers a plethora of beaches. Calvi is said to be the place of origin of Christopher Columbus but the town is better known for its beaches, cobbled stone streets and old churches. The town has beautiful medieval architecture, many of the monuments have historical significance. Get a load of the panoramic view of the Mediterranean sea from Baroque St-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral or watch the harbors while talking a walk along the beaches. The town is best known for its dance festivals of Calvi on the Rocks and the polyphonic song festival Rencontres de Chants Polyphoniques. Visit the town for a quiet getaway from the other commercial cities of France.
