Nestled along the shores of the Neckar River, the city of Esslingen Am Neckar is one of the oldest cities in the region. Conquered by the Wurrtembergs in the 19th Century, the city's origins date back to the Neolithic times according to several archaeological evidences. One of the most well-preserved cities, the medieval style architecture from its times as a free Imperial city or its renowned castle still evoke awe among visitors. Hosting various festivals and markets within its ancient buildings, the city is a bustling socio-cultural hub of the Stuttgart region.
