Situated in the Adriatic Sea, the Gulf of Trieste is special because it is shared by Slovenia, Croatia and Italy, however for all practical purposes, it is assumed to be a part of Italy's northern coast. One of the shallowest water bodies, the Slovenian part runs as shallow as 50 feet! Visitors to any 3 of these European countries would do well to make a day trip to this gulf, because of its unusual climatic conditions and currents. The famous regatta Barcolana is held each year in October and is well attended by sailing enthusiasts.
