Once a Free Imperial City, the town of Isny is one of the best preserved medieval towns. Established around the 11th Century, the town was a significant and prosperous commercial center and the territory of numerous nobles. The old fortifications like the ramparts and towers which once protected the town can still be seen. The small town of Isny has beautiful chapels and old churches including the Benedictine Monastery. The Isny Castle is also a must-visit attraction where you can not only admire the architecture but also art lovers can visit the art gallery housed in it. Historically rich, the town of Isny is a gem of the Allgau region.
