TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Constructed upon old piers dating back to the 1850s, Commercial Street is a popular tourist attraction in Downtown Portland. Despite facing a setback in 1980s, Commercial Street retained its charm thanks to the efforts of the local fishermen. One of the popular landmarks here is the Maine State Pier, which is a music venue and marine facility. Also found here are the Union Wharf and Widgery Wharf, which are regarded amongst the city's oldest structures. Thanks to the aforementioned features, Commercial Street was declared one of the best streets by the American Planning Association in 2008.
