Once a thriving center of production for Damask fabric, Großschönau has evolved into a tourist-friendly town over the years. It is now recognized as a resort town, and is home to the Trixi Holidaypark, a sun-dappled lido in the Zittauer Mountains that offers endless avenues for relaxation and recreation. Other famous attractions in town include the Zittau Mountains Nature Park House and museums like the German Damask and Terrycloth Museum and Folklore and Mill Museum.
