With a history that can can be traced back to the 9th Century, the picturesque town of Halberstadt stands at the foothills of the Harz mountains. The town was a notable center for the Jewish community in the 17th Century and the numerous monuments and cultural institutions strewn across its cityscape are a testament to its rich history. Some of the highlights worth visiting include the Klaus building, which is a prominent center for Judaism studies and the magnificent St Stephen's Cathedral. Halberstadt is also famous for perhaps the world's longest and slowest concert, a rendition of composer John Cage's “As Slow As Possible” scheduled to be stretched out over 639 years. Those interested can catch it at the Burchardikirche.
