Creglingen

One of the original towns to acquire the status of 'Romantic Road town' in Germany, the town of Creglingen, set in the Tauber valley, affords a quaint landscape of historic landmarks, vineyards and woodlands. Apart from a few museums like the Fingerhut Museum and the Jewish Museum, Creglingen is home to two notable historic landmarks that attest to its 14th-century origin. One is the ruin of a Celtic fortification, while the other is the Lindleinturm, a watchtower from the Middle Ages topped with a small house, which now showcases exhibits of Creglingen's past inhabitants. The main reason one must visit Creglingen, however, is the Herrgottskiche. This church was built around the 14th-century after a farmer discovered an intact communion wafer while ploughing his field. The church famously houses the Marienaltar -a late-Gothic woodcarved masterpiece rendered by Tilman Riemenschneider.
