A Roman-era city that was referred to as 'Vinomna', Rankweil was once a key stop on the Roman trade route. With a vibrant past such as Rankweil's, it's not a surprise that the town is home to several historical landmarks that helped shape its history. One of its most notable landmarks is the pilgrimage church of Unsere Liebe Frau Mariä Heimsuchung, an 8th-century fortress church that became a basilica in 1985. The Villa Rustica museum, the Museum of Printmaking and the town hall also offer glimpses of the town's life and times. Besides historical landmarks, Rankweil also has a modern city vibe, with over a hundred music clubs in its city sphere, as well as seasonal markets, events and festivals that draw quite the crowd.
