TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
The White Cart Water cuts through the heart of Paisley, and that is where this antiquated abbey lies nestled. During its heyday, the abbey was a thriving centerpoint for the royalty and Scottish aristocrats, and a striking testament to this fact is the tracery of burial places of Marjorie Bruce (mother of the then kind Robert II) and Scotland's High Stewards, which are housed in the abbey. The abbey is also home to the Celtic Barochan Cross, ornate stained glass windows and the Abbey organ which is touted as one of Scotland's best. Running through the expanse of the abbey are a number of monuments and markers, each of which chronicle stirring stories of the abbey's iconic past, and its revered present. The abbey's exterior is no less interesting; complete with sharp arches, and traces that resemble Gothic architecture, the abbey's visage is adorned with a string of gargoyles, which only add to its glory and intrigue.
