Eglise Saint-Thomas

Eglise Saint-Thomas is one of the best examples of Alsace baroque art. Constructed and renovated between the 7th and 14th century, it is one of the the biggest religious monuments in the city. It possesses in particular some treasures of medieval sculpture; the tomb of Field Marshal Maurice de Saxe, a great fighter for several princes, is found here because his Protestant origins prevented him from being buried anywhere else other than in Hugeonot soil. This mausoleum was specially sculpted by Pigalle, artist to the king, for Louis XV. There are also other interesting gravestones, as well as an organ from the 18th century. These days you can help out in classical music concerts in the church.
