Charlie's Place

Set along Carver Street in Myrtle Beach, Charlie's Place was a lively nightclub that opened its doors back in 1937. African-American performers like Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Little Richard and Ella Fitzgerald are known to have performed here in the past. This nightclub fell into shambles after the nightclub’s owner, Charlie Fitzgerald was killed by the Ku Klux Klan. In order to preserve the area’s history, the club’s site and the adjoining motel was purchased by the City of Myrtle Beach in 2015.
