An otherwise quiet town in the Loire Valley, Amboise would be the quintessential sleepy French village if it weren't for travelers who to stop by to explore and soak in its laid-back beauty. Perhaps its main draw and claim to fame is its connection with artist Leonardo da Vinci, who lived out the last of his days in this beautiful riverside commune. Once home to the French royal court, this small town is lined with timbered houses, and is notably home to the namesake Château d' Amboise. Besides its landmark buildings, it is also worthwhile to experience Amboise and its many vibrant markets that feature everything from local wines and cheese to handicrafts.
