With its half-timbered architecture and charming market square with a fanciful fountain, Ehingen may appear to be a typical German town on the Danube Bike Trail. Its most distinguishing feature, however, is its obsession with all things beer, which is evident in the numerous breweries strewn throughout town. The over 500-year-old Berg Brauerei, which famously hosts the Ulrichfest on St Ulrich's Day, is one of its oldest breweries. This fantastic festival calls for a three-day celebration of food, beer, and mediaeval themes, interspersed with concerts and parades. Aside from its beer roots, the town is also known for its Upper and Lower Town neighborhoods, which are ideal for exploring its heritage architecture and historic landmarks, such as the 14th-century Heilig-Geist-Spital.
