Built originally in the 15th Century, the Iglesia de Santa María de la Encarnación la Mayor features a Gothic construction style. However, a large part of the structure was destroyed during an earthquake. The reconstruction undertaken post that drew its influence from the Renaissance style of architecture. Sitting in the heart of the town along the historic Plaza Duquesa de Pargent, this statuesque structure and its interiors, facade, and tower have immense artistic and architectural charm. The church is the largest of its kind in the country and stands on the ruins of an ancient mosque.
