TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
The name of this place says it all as it means 'lovely place.' The birthplace of the ex-Prime Minister, Massimo D'Alema, it is the scene of political dinners and lunches and visited each year by thousands of tourists. It stands on an island dominated by the cathedral, a Baroque building filled with superb paintings. There are many fine palazzi and churches (mostly 16th-18th Centuries) that follow the line of the city walls down to the sea. The Hellenistic fountain is decorated with scenes from ancient mythology.
