This locality shares the title of Queen of the Alps with Cortina. It is situated at 1224 meters (4000 feet) above sea level, and is dominated by Mont Blanc which rises 4810 meters (15,800 feet) above it. The cable cars which take passengers up to its splendid glaciers leave from the slopes of the highest mountain in Europe. The cable car journey up to the glaciers is deemed as the eighth wonder of the world. But the journey up to Mont Blanc is only one of the attractions offered by Courmayeur. It has 101 kilometers (63 miles) of ski slopes, 33 of which are blue runs (easy), 56 red runs (medium), and 12 black runs (difficult).
