The original nucleus of this castle, comprising the current quadrangular belt with angular towers, dates back to the Norman-Swabian era. However, in 1156, King William I of Sicily destroyed the castle, resulting in significant damage. Around 1233, Frederick II restored it, leading to numerous alterations. Today's castle is surrounded by a moat on three sides, accessible through the southern gate or via a bridge. The Argon walls and Hohenstaufen tower enhance its magnificence, and it serves as a venue for various exhibitions.
