Schoonhoven

Just a fifteen minute drive east of Rotterdam brings you to the small riverside city of Schoonhoven. This small city with it's roots firmly planted in medieval times offers visitors a spectacular insight into Holland as it was centuries ago. Famous for it's magnificent handcrafted silverware, Schoonhoven boasts an abundance of jewelery and gift shops where almost anything imaginable is available in the finest silver known to man. However, silver is not the only attraction for visitors to Schoonhoven. The buildings and houses which make up the town are an amazing blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and modern architecture. The 14th Century Bartholomew's Church is an incredible sight with it's 164 foot high tower which actually leans over approximately five feet. You feel you might see it topple if you stand there long enough. In the center of the town, the Gothic style town hall commands your immediate attention with it's stained glass windows and imposing net-arches, right out of a fairytale.
