The Schauspielhaus attracts people of all backgrounds and all generations. Children come as part of their school curriculum, young and middle-aged people head here for a special evening out (parents can leave their children in the crèche during the performance), older people tend to have season tickets and tourists come to learn about German culture. In short, the Schauspielhaus has something for everyone. Built in 1911, the main auditorium can hold up to 800 people, the smaller stage 170. Guided tours of the foyer, auditorium and the backstage area provide a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes.
