Founded in 1807 as a small herb market, Viktualienmarkt has developed over the years into one of Munich's biggest markets with an exciting collection of fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, and fish on offer. It has over hundreds of shops selling fresh produce, as well as a selection of restaurants and a large beer garden that brings in the local patrons every evening. The products are known to be reasonably priced, and the entertainment includes a number of cultural events, including a popular summer festival, that takes place here regularly.
