Ludgate Hill, along with the adjoining St Paul's Square, is one of the city's most atmospheric and historic areas. It was here that the last public hanging in Birmingham took place, but if you're after less gruesome entertainment then this pleasant pub should fit the bill. Its interior is styled in traditional fashion, with two floors and plenty of dark wood. The range of beers is by no means extensive and nor is the choice of food, but it's a cheap and popular alternative to the glut of reasonably expensive restaurants nearby.
