The Allegheny Cemetery, founded in 1844 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offers guided tours through its 300 acres (121.4 hectares). With 120,000 grave-sites, the cemetery is one of the largest and oldest in the country. Here, you can trace the devastating effects of influenza and coal mining disasters, as well as learn the history of local families. There are a few famous people buried here as well: composer Stephen Foster and actress Lillian Russell among them.
