A quiet pause in a busy day can be found in the restful green trim and polished mahogany of the Redwood Library and Athenaeum. Founded in 1747 on the principle of establishing good for mankind, and designed by American architect Peter Harrison, it is the oldest lending library and the first public classical building in America. Today, both members of the library and the public enjoy books, lectures, plays and exhibits in a true Athenaeum spirit. Guided tours daily with donation.
