Berkeley's César Chávez Park came into being in 1957, although back then it was known as the North Waterfront Park. Spread over 90 acres (36 hectares), the area is perfect for good ol' outdoorsy fun, with great views, hiking trails, leash-free areas for dogs as well as communal tables and barbecue grills. On a clear summer day, it’s also possible to enjoy great views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge among other sites. The park is also a popular spot for kite-flying.
