Sitting proudly on Castle Rock promontory is Nottingham Castle, a spectacular royal fortress awash in traces of medieval architecture. A site replete with history and heritage, the now Ducal Mansion delightfully lords over Nottingham's cityscape. Built in 1067 and demolished in 1649, it has since been rebuilt into a museum that features art galleries exhibiting the work of local and national artists, as well as historical artifacts such as suits of armor and medieval weapons. Its vibrant art galleries house a vast collection of silver, glass, decorative items, and paintings. Doubling as a mysterious wonderland, the castle is mottled with tunnels and caves that run underneath, while their inner fabric whispers hidden stories from the times of Roger Mortimer and King David. Before its steady decline, the castle was upheld by a number of English monarchs, its majestic visage now fronted by an endearing figurine of Robin Hood. Its unmarred past punctuated by a tracery of siege, romance, power and fascination, the magnificent Nottingham Castle is a like a living portrait of history which transcends space and time.
