Built in 1979, the Église Saint-Jeanne d'Arc stands out among the bountiful classical and Baroque churches throughout France. Nestled in the heart of the city, the unusual architecture of the Sainte-Jeanne D'Arc evokes the shape of an inverted boat, much like other churches from 16th Century. While the church faced ravages of World War II, the precious stained glass windows were treasured away safely. The intricately colorful windows depict Biblical scenes like Crucifixion and childhood of Jesus Christ. Steeped in history and yet exhibiting a modern element, the church commemorates the sacrifice of Joan of Arc and was designed by architect Louis Arretche. The innovative combination of modern aesthetics with the respect shown to the religious and political history of the location makes this church well worth a visit.
