A year-round playground at the base of the imposing Whistler Blackcomb mountains that unfold in the distant backdrop, the village of Whistler is one of the world's top skiing destinations. A pristine snow-sprinkled landscape stands stunningly ready to welcome droves of snowboarding and skiing enthusiasts that throng the slopes in winter, replete with 200 marked runs and 37 lifts. Surprisingly, however, this major winter destination sees no lull during the summer either and is filled with sun-soakers who traipse along with the moraine-studded beauty of the alpine town with myriad hiking and biking adventures. A captivating resort town that boomed in part due to the advent of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, Whistler's boundless alpine landscape was used to its fullest extent in the 2010 Winter Olympics that were held here.
